Stable isotope equipment
- An Agilent 6890 GC with combustion interface (GC/C combustion III) coupled to a Finnigan DeltaplusXP
- A Gilson autosampler and coupled to a Finnigan Delta S
- A 5975C quadrupole GC/MS
- A Perkin Elmer 200 series LC coupled to an Applied Biosystems API 3000 MS/MS
Research themes
CLDS research interests are centered around chronic metabolic diseases:
- Arteriosclerosis (cholesterol and bile acid metabolism);
- Diabetes Mellitus (glucose, lipid, bile acid metabolism);
and research projects are performed in men, rats, various mouse models and cell cultures
Stable isotope analyses
- Compound specific 13C and 2H analysis in bile, blood, urine, feces related to cholesterol, bile acids, glucose, palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid<
- Overall isotope enrichment using IRMS, specific isotope enrichments using GC/MS
- Primary applications: Measurement of pool sizes and synthesis rates of bile acids, synthesis rates and absorption rates of cholesterol, synthesis rates of fatty acids, digestion of lipids and carbohydrates, glucose absorption and hepatic glucose fluxes
