The BASIS Symposium 2018 will take place at University of Liège‘s Institute of Zoology (Quai Van Beneden 22, 4020 Liège).
Located close to the city center, on the banks of the River Meuse, this building will provide a great setup for the symposium. It’s one of ULg’s oldest building, and it’s also home to the Aquarium, Zoology Museum. Its main hall is adorned by Paul Delvaux’s massive mural painting, “The Genesis”.
How to reach the Institute of Zoology
BASIS 2018 can use the map below to help them find their way in Liège. Please bear in mind that Liège is a small city, and that many distances can be covered by foot. The Institiute of Zoology is about 15 minutes walking from most point in the city center, and around 30 minutes from Liège-Guillemins station.
By public transportation
Most BASIS 2018 attendees will likely arrive at Liège-Guillemins, which is Liège’s main train station. From there, you can reach the Institute of Zoology using two different lines.
You can take bus nr. 17 from bus stop A (right in front of the station’s main entrance, just cross the road). In this case, alight at the “Pont de Longdoz” stop (see the map above for details).
You can also use line nr. 4, which is a loop through Liège’s city center. If you take the bus in bus stop A, you’ll go through the city center. In this case, alight at the “Quai Van Beneden” stop (see map above) If you take it from bus stop B (across the street from stop A), you’ll go in the opposite direction, which is actually a bit quicker. In this case, go down at “Pont de Longdoz” bus stop (see map above). Since line 4 is a loop, you might be required to change from one bus to another. In this case, simply wait at the bus stop where you left the vehicle, the change typically takes less than 5 minutes.
Traffic in Liège can get dense at rush hour, so please take that into account when planning your trip. Finding a parking spot around the Institute of Zoology can be tricky (and most spots are paid anyway), so we suggest using a parking garage. Most options are listed on the map above. The closest option is the “Illico Park Aquarium”, that is very close to the symposium venue.
